Mimi's Cafe

Category: Restaurants

4 star rating

Mimi's Cafe is one of the more classier resturaunts in Rancho Cucamonga. The employees wear bow ties, menus are encased in quality plastic, and the resturaunt puts out no advertisements (I know this because my I had a friend who worked there). The resturaunt seems to be the place to go on a Sunday afternoon or even a friday night. Yet, exclusive seating and quality food have it's adverse affects on the wait time.

Prices are on the higher side of what I would call moderate. The food is good, however, not as good as it is priced. Perhaps 90% of what it is priced at is what I would pay for the food. Expect to pay about 25-30 bucks for two.

The service is great, as the resturaunt is switchin' out employees like socks. This keeps fresh new people waiting on you, who aren't really tired of their job yet. All in all, definately a resturaunt I would go to, and definately worth checking out.

Kabuki Japanese Restaurant

Kabuki Kabuki, how art thou? Apparently, thou arst mixed with feelings. From your wonderful sushi to your questionable service.

Kabuki, I will admit, you do have some damn good and fresh sushi, but, as anyone who's been to your luscious bar stool seats more then 3 times will know, your service is quite contrary to your food. Now, don't get me wrong, it's not the equivalent to a cave man dining hall, but there is room to improve. Thy location has little equal, with the mall right outside your door. Thy prices are fair, gentle as a gently wind in the desert. Thy dishes are immaculate, never faltering in their aesthetic quality to my stomach, but thy servants... Hark, strike a high chord! It needs work. That is why I present thee with a four.

(Also: Wait times can be a little bit long too...)

The Portland International Airport is a quaint, medium sized airport with enough breathing room to get through baggage check. My experience took me though an early Saturday morning check in. Now, I've heard the horror stories from LAX, however, PDX was not even close to the infamous arrival of "3 hours before you flight." I honestly believe I could have arrived an hour before my flight and still have made it on. Now, don't be stupid and try an arrive 30 minutes to departure and expect to be able to run onto your plane, PDX allows for quicker travel times due to it's lesser amount of people.

The amenities aren't to shabby either. Free Wi-Fi, moderately priced, decent food, quite nice architecture. All in all, flying out of PDX (and in to ONT, if you were wondering) was a quite nice experience, and I'd be more then willing to do it again.

Also note: Driving from Rancho Cucamonga to Portland Oregon would have cost more then one plane ticket. The two hour flight was quite nice compared to the 14 hour drive.

Abby's Legendary Pizza

Category: Pizza

4 star rating
 08/19/2006  First to Review
Now, I'm no newbie at pizza. So when I go to a place with a name like, "Abby's Legendary Pizza," I'm expecting something... Well, Legendary. Now, not to purposely bring down your expectations, but Abby's wasn't Legendary, as it's named implied. However, it wasn't bad. In fact, it was good. But good only goes so far, thus the four star rating.

I came late night, about an hour before close. Every thing was clean, well kept, friendly environment. Appearance was good. My girlfriend and I ordered, sat down, and waited for our food. Smartly, Abby's but some trivial facts and questions on these little pamphlets on the table, so were occupied during the... Ohhhh... 15-17 minutes it took for our pizza to come out. A little on the long side, as I used to be able to make a pizza in about 10-13, but whatevs, right? We got our pizza.

The meal was good, as I said. Pepperoni was a tiny bit under cooked,  but still good. Now, there are certain styles of making a pizza (i.e. thick crust, thin crust, etc.) Abby's style is to use a very small layer of dough. The end result is a very indistinguishable crust. I guess if you like thin crust, you could appreciate it, but I like my crust to pop up like a stripper coming out of a birthday cake. Just my preference however. For the price, they sure could use some better ingredients.

Well, I guess if they lowered the price for the pizza, I could bump this to a high four, but as it is, it remains a low four. Very good environment, very nice people, mediocre pizza. Good, but room to improve. Try Abby's if you're hungry and close, don't make the extra effort to travel there.

Brunswick Deer Creek Lanes

Categories: Amusement Parks, Bowling

3 star rating

Now, I'm not the biggest bowler in the world, and I'm assuming that most of us aren't, but Brunswick Deer Creek Lanes ain't to shabby. I mean, it could be improved: some of the lanes malfunctioning or not counting pins correctly isn't a surprise, but it's not common. The events and deals they have are frequent and worth while. They also have the bowling lock down thing where they have an all night bowling session (for young teens, I'd say, but it's never too late for anything). If someone asked me where to bowl, I'd say this place--however, not with any pride. I would definitely stay away from the food. It's greasy, not well cooked, and well, not great. Some of the stuff is alright, but don't plan on attending on an empty stomach.

Good place, good atmosphere, definitely room for improvement. I'm probably generous in giving it a 3.

California Athletic Club

Now, I know I'm probably not the BEST experts in gyms, but I do know how to work out and what to look for in a gym.

It's a nice facility; it has lots of weights, it's open 24-hours a day, the staff is nice, has private sections for women to work out in. All in all, very nice place to work out. The free classes they offer with membership are very good for the price (NOTE: You're going to have to work your price down from what they offer you. Believe me, you're gunna be haggling).

However, the building smells like ammonia... all the time. At points, it can get crowded, and if you're looking for a place where no one knows you, this isn't the place to go. A lot of people like it because it's good; they attract allot of customers and at times, that may be a bad thing when you have to wait for a machine. However, waiting isn't that long and at peak hours, there's always something open.

It's privately owned, so it'll be hard to beat the price. Great gym, bad location (too far from their target demographics), great atmosphere. I was a member, but I couldn't keep up. I would still most definitely suggest signing up if you're serious about joining a gym.

Rite Aid

4 star rating

The staff who works here is young, but still friendly. Usually Rite Aids have the staff from hell, but this one, I must admit, is pretty decent. However, it's nothing special. Their Thrifty's Ice Cream is pretty good, but usually runs out quickly during the summer time. Only open till 10, which can be bothersome at times. Very good Rite Aid, but decent store in general.

Archibald Flowers

4 star rating

Archibald Flowers is a very small place with a very big business. For Valentines Day, Dances, or any occasion, they can get you what you need in good spirit and good quality.

Just shy of a five, their boutonnieres and corsages are very limited. As well, location and parking is a bit of a problem. They are located on the corner of two very busy streets, and slowing down enough to get into the parking lots runs the risk of being rear ended.

Archibald Flowers is good, but limited (I feel). Their limits are the only thing that keeps them from receiving a five.

Wabi Sabi Steak House & Sushi Bar

5 star rating

Wabi Sabi is one of those places you can take a good friend, a partner, a group of nine, a business associate or your parents and still have a great time. The chefs cook your food right in front of you in a show-style manner. It becomes an adventure. Fire volcanoes of onions and egg being tossed in your face (with consent, of course) is common and even exciting. Despite the language and culture barrier, the chefs are still very kind and very understanding. Prices are moderate and service is good. Chairs can be a little uncomfortable at times, but other then that, there is very little to complain about in this restaurant.

Viva Madrid

Awesome restaurant. Service is good and the atmosphere is awesome.
Nearly everything hanging on the walls is from Spain or has Spain connections, old and new. Great thing about it: It's all for sale. I believe you can even buy the chairs, if you want. The greatest thing of all: The door makes a very unique "creaking" sound as you enter. The food is unbelievable. My mouth danced with flavor when I ate the Spanish style food. It's pretty unbelievable.

I recommend this to small parties (-5) and very highly for couples. Great food, great service and unbelievable atmosphere.
